About Me

My name is Jae Kim, and I am a junior at Brown College studying Environmental Science. I’ve lived half my life in South Korea, and the other half in New York.

I currently have the honor of serving as the Brown College President. During my time at Rice, I have also served the student body as College Senator, Diversity Facilitator, and SA Environmental Commission Chair.

Across my positions, I’ve been able to learn the ins and outs of the Student Association, work closely with countless administrative departments, and most importantly, build close relationships with new people from all residential colleges.

I am deeply passionate about student quality of life, DEI, and sustainability, and have pursued various projects in each. As Student Association President, I look forward to working with all of you to create an equitable and sustainable campus where student life is prioritized.

Accomplishments & Projects

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Created affinity groups at Brown College under the Diversity Council, with $2,600 in programming funding
Proposed and led the initiative to create a student selection committee for the new North & South Colleges residential DEI staff
Collaborated with other College Presidents and the DEI Office to strengthen the Diversity Facilitator program
Working with H&D to transform an unused space in Brown Tower into an all-gender restroom

Student Life

Co-authored legislation that provided $2,000 in SA funding for the Student Success Initiatives Pantry to address food insecurity
Collaborating with H&D and Brown EC to create new study and social spaces at Brown College
Organized and facilitated subsidized summer storage for low-income and international students
Assisting the director of H&D with an initiative to provide late-night food options via fresh food vending machines

Sustainability

Assisted the CCD in organizing the first post-COVID Sustainability Career Crawl
Reinstated the Committee on Investor Responsibility in collaboration with Rice Management Company
Created the Rice Environmental Curricula Student Advisory Committee to expand academic offerings in sustainability
Led the SA Environmental Commission in organizing clothing swaps, ecotherapy picnics, Earth Day celebrations, and more
